Knee Menisectomy
During the 1990's I incurred several knee injuries that required various levels of rehab. In each case the RehabWorks trainers were able to help me
recover to a point where I could resume exercise and sports activities. In 2002, I was injured while snow skiing and had to undergo corrective knee
surgery that was scheduled for several months later. Athletic Trainers Mary and Erik helped me set up a "Prehab" strength program that would reduce
the amount of recovery time after the operation. As a result I was able to start jogging within weeks of the surgery and was fully recovered after a
few months. I can now jog, pain free, several times a week which helps me to maintain my weight and improve my cardiovascular health.

ACL Reconstruction Surgery
I want to take the time to thank you for your assistance with my recovery from knee surgery as well as previous sports related injuries. The
environment you work in is very professional yet provides a comfort to the patients. Some days were very difficult to work through the pain, but you
made the sessions entertaining enough to forget about the pain. Without your dedication to your work and your staff's outstanding knowledge, I may not
have recovered fully. You helped me reach my goal of being able to return to work as well as being able to obtain the standard of play I am used to
while participating softball, racquetball and other outdoor related activities.
Thank you again for allowing me to rehabilitate in your center. I hope I will never be a patient of yours again, only a visitor to the gym. See you
on the racquetball court!

Total Knee Replacement
My name is Gregory Hooper and I.m an employee of Space Gateway Support, Inc. In May 2003 I had reconstructive surgery to my left knee, which included
a total knee replacement, muscle / tissue transfers and several skin grafts. After spending 28 days in the hospital and several months recuperating, I
began rehabilitation therapy and strength training with Mary, Eric, Amy and crew of the Rehab Center. Although rehab was no picnic, the sound training
program, positive reinforcement and ready availability of the KSC Fitness Center had me back on my feet in a relative short time. I continue to do the
exercises I learned from Erik and have added swimming and more walking to my routine. Thanks again for the outstanding support and congratulations on
your Grand Opening.

Low Back Pain
I was a true non-believer of rehabilitation through exercise, but my experience as a patient of RehabWorks has made me a firm believer in its
miracles. My experience has given me a whole new respect for rehab and what it can do for a human body in pain. The wonderful part about our KSC
RehabWorks facility is that it is free, staffed with experts, and doesn't cause an employee to take sick leave for every appointment. Not only did
RehabWorks save me money but it made me whole again. I am so glad that the facility is expanding so they can help more patients.

Wrist Tendinitis
In February of 2003, I was diagnosed with tendonitis of the left wrist due to an improper workstation. The pain was so bad it would keep me awake at
night. The Occupational Health Facility recommended me to attend therapy and arranged for a complete ergonomic evaluation of my work area. After a
thorough examination by the rehab therapist, I attended therapy 3 times a week for several weeks. Mary, my therapist, watched over me very carefully
and was very aware of my needs. I am extremely happy to say that after several weeks of therapy, the pain was gone and to this day has not returned.
And, I now sit at an ergonomically correct workstation.
Thanks RehabWorks, it really worked!!!!!

Tendon Lengthening Surgery
Hello, my name is Bridgett Mack. I've depended on RehabWorks several times for different injuries/sprains and have always completed my physical
rehabilitation with perfect mobility. RehabWorks greatest challenge with me came in September 2003. After having foot surgery to lengthen my tendon,
which included transplanting it on top of my foot to correct a "drop foot" (injured or weak tendons in the foot that makes it impossible to flex the
foot upward), I was assigned to Erik Nason of RehabWorks to help me strengthen my range of motion in a foot that had never experienced it before. Erik
created a physical rehabilitation chart for me to follow, which ranged from riding the stationary bike to strengthening my foot and ankles using
weights. Again, RehabWorks exceeded my doctor's expectations and mine. I'm able to flex my foot upward, and my range of motion is perfect. Of course
there were times I thought, "I'm not strong enough to do that." and Erik was there to give me the encouragement to go beyond my fears. Thanks again!

Total Knee Replacement
In October of 2003 I had total knee replacement surgery that left me unable to walk on my own. The surgeon referred me to a rehabilitation center
outside of KSC and after spending 8 weeks my progress was terribly slow and I was not satisfied.
I had applied to RehabWorks for my therapy primarily because of the convenience of doing physical rehabilitation close to work. The first appointment
with my athletic trainer, Erik instantly impressed me; he was courteous, friendly and professional. Within a few weeks the improvement in my knee was
very noticeable. Erik takes the time to explain the process and continuously pushes to get the most out of you. He also will spend as much one-on-one
time that is necessary to make you comfortable.
Without hesitation I would say that the RehabWorks is better than the rehab you can get anywhere else. I would highly recommend RehabWorks to anyone
recovering from an injury or from surgery and I would like to personally thank Erik for his patience and the great experience.

ACL Reconstruction Surgery
I would like to thank you all for your wonderful personalities and all your help on my speedy knee recovery.
Amy for the "knowing my phone number" every time I called. Mary the "Cooler Lady" who said her name was Mary, and giving me the serious look when I
told her to "get back to work" jokingly. Erik, thank you for all the pain and suffering that you put me through on my knee and hand surgery and giving
me the "I can do it outlook" when I had the "I don't want to attitude" and would cry & whine.
I love you all.
If you are a person that needs therapy and are in pain, then call RehabWorks they will give more then you could ever ask for.

Rotator Cuff Repair
I had shoulder surgery last September, which involved 4 separate procedures. In the words of the doctor it was one of the worst shoulders he has done.
Erik tailored a routine for my unique circumstance. Six months later I am back stronger than I was even before my injury and almost have full range of
motion. Having RehabWorks on center not only saved me in the pocket book and helped me avoid long trips to the doctor's office, but it also greatly
reduced the number of sick leave hours and helped me maintain a productive work schedule.

Hamstring Rupture/ ACL Reconstruction Repair/Menisectomy
My experience with RehabWorks has been nothing but enjoyable. On May 16, 2003, I suffered a life-changing injury while participating in an office
team-building event. Not knowing if I would ever walk again, I had multiple injuries to my left knee; a torn meniscus, torn ACL, torn LCL, a detached
hamstring, a fractured fibula and major nerve damages which caused an injury known as "drop foot." to my left foot, which meant my left foot was
basically useless. Prior to my surgery, and by Dr.'s counsel, all the nice folks at RehabWorks continually worked with me 3-4 times per week to ensure
that I did not lose muscle mass while awaiting surgery. The Jewett Clinic had to put a team together to do the 4-5 hour reconstructive surgery on my
knee; this took 8 weeks. On the day of surgery, the Dr.'s could not understand how I had maintained muscle mass in my injured leg, since I could not
walk; I owe this to RehabWorks. Following surgery, the RehabWorks team, again under Dr.'s counsel, started my long process of recovery, which lasted
about 4 1/2 months. It started with passive movements, 3-4 times per week, graduating to active movements, then active resistive movements. A day of
real trial was the day that Mary allowed me to crutch out to the stationary bicycle and try a once around pedal. With sadness, I could not do it, the
pain was too great. Goals changed daily, weekly. Putting my foot down, bending my knee, standing on the newly repaired knee--all simple task taken
for granted before the injury were now major milestones. Then the day came, I got on the bicycle and made a once around pedal, then another, and
another. I could not stop smiling, and yes I was fighting back some manly tears. It was all down hill from that moment; I had reached a major goal
and was well on my way to total recovery. All through the process Mary, Erik, and Amy encouraged me daily, and never gave up on my total recovery.
Well, today, I can do almost anything, and I never doubted for one minute that RehabWorks would bring me back, for you see they also walked me through
rehab on both shoulders, one from a ski accident, the other just old age spurs. We are fortunate at KSC to have this outstanding service available to
our employees, (I never missed a day of work except one week for surgery). Although my "drop-foot" has never returned to functional use, I can walk
just fine with a foot brace. In the fall, I plan to have a tendon transfer surgery that will restore the use of my foot. Guess who will be doing my
rehab?

Frozen Shoulder
Recovering from painful arthroscopic shoulder surgery, the Rehab Works Team really made a difference to me. My recovery was especially complicated due
to the fact that my shoulder was "locked" beyond a certain narrow range. Both Mary and Erik, slowly at first then with a more aggressive exercise &
stretching routines, returned my shoulder to full use. Thanks Rehab Works for your professionalism and caring attitudes!

Rotator Cuff Repair
My name is Fred L. Harvey Jr from the NSLD. I have been a patient of RehabWorks (KSC) for the past 2 years. I had a suffered a partial rotator cuff
tear in my right shoulder that required surgery. After the surgery was done, my physician recommended I go to the RehabWorks center at KSC for
rehabilitation. Since going there, the care at the center has been super. The environment is very soothing and relaxing. Their staff will go the extra
mile so you will be comfortable. They're very proficient and focused in what they do and believe. You will have a speedy recovery and feel great after
your done.
Thanks Mary and Erik for such wonderful care and being persistent in helping me heal faster.

Ankle Sprain
On February 8, 2003, I was doing my warm up for the Tiger by the Tail 5K race at Cocoa High School with my two sisters. We were jogging through the
campus. The grass was wet and as I stepped onto the sidewalk my right foot slipped off the edge of a metal plate in the sidewalk and down I went. The
ankle swelled immediately to the size of a baseball and I could see I was not going to run this race today. My one sister transported me to Cape
Canaveral Hospital for treatment. It was determined that I had a bad sprain, plus a cut to the other knee, and a bruised shoulder. I was referred to
an orthopedic doctor for follow up. Dr Tuerlings gave me a removable soft cast and recommended therapy after the sprain had healed. I asked for
referral to RehabWorks since it would be convenient for me.
I met with Mary and she not only examined my ankle, but checked my shoulder and knee as well. She listened to my goals; not to just get range of motion
back, but to be able to run and race again as soon as possible, since this happened in the middle of my competing in the Space Coast Runners Runner of
the Year Series. Mary prescribed a heat and cold regimen and we set up an appointment schedule that conveniently fit into my work schedule. As soon as
I could, she had me on the recumbent bike in the fitness center, working with the elastic bands, and gave me ultrasound treatment at every visit. The
progression was slow and Mary was concerned, so she even called my doctor and asked for a bone scan to insure there was not a stress fracture that was
missed on the original x-rays. It was determined that it was an extreme sprain that would just take time. So we kept working on it and I learned new
ankle strengthening exercises. Mary also took the time to give me workouts that would try to keep my cardio and upper body strength in shape for when
I could go back to running. Although I missed 4 races, with Mary's help (not necessarily her approval); I did finish the last few races of the series.
In June of 2003, I started a training clinic to compete in the Space Coast Half Marathon. I competed and won my age group in that race in November.
Mary and I remain friends and talk of my accomplishments. I would have healed from the fall, but with Mary's help, and the use of the RehabWorks
facility, I was able to resume my running and actually improve my capabilities. Thank you, Mary.

ACL Reconstruction Surgery
Last October I had ACL knee reconstruction surgery and decided to enroll with Rehab Works to perform my rehabilitation. I started with Erik Nason a
week after surgery and continued with rehab for 3 months. It has now been 6 months after surgery and my knee is feeling better than ever thanks to
help from Erik and Rehab Works. The knowledge, attention, and motivation I encountered at Rehab Works was second to none. Erik was always available
to answer my questions, concerns, and guide me in the right direction. My experience at Rehab Works was exceptional. This service is offered at no
cost and I would highly recommend it to others in need.

Tibia/Fibula Fracture
I wish to personally thank you Mr. Erik Nason and the staff at KSC RehabWorks for all the great physical therapy performed on my left fibula and tibia.
I was involved in a bicycle accident in May 2001 and broke my tib/fib. After surgery and eight months of physical therapy, I continued to have
swelling and pain. A friend at work suggested I schedule a visit with KSC RehabWorks. I decided to take his suggestion and Thank God I did.
After several therapy visits with Erik at RehabWorks and still very little progress, he suggested that something was not right with the way my left leg
had healed. He suggested I get a second opinion. I felt a deep sinking in my stomach, but took his advice and consulted another orthopedic
specialist. The orthopedic specialist determined from the x-rays the tibia had a non-union and the fibula was showing bone decay. In short, my injury
had escalated to a higher level. The specialist referred me to a traumatologist surgeon for reconstructive surgery. He immediately scheduled a second
surgery and my tibia/fibula was finally repaired with a titanium rod and bone grafting.
I returned to physical therapy and I am now proud of the great strides of improvement in my life. Erik and the KSC RehabWorks staff's professionalism,
encouragement & dedication really make the difference!
I am an active person and it was all I could do to walk to the car, but thanks to Mr. Nason and the KSC RehabWorks staff I am leading a healthy, active
lifestyle again.
Thanks for giving me my life back.

Sciatica
One year ago, I began a long, painful, expensive and frustrating journey through the throngs of the medical profession for a diagnosis and solution to
a condition that evaded them all. The pain that radiated down my leg almost paled to the emotional agony I felt after seeing five different specialists
who had five different inconclusive diagnoses, numerous x-rays, MRIs and tests, weeks of therapy, crutches, prescriptions, and lost time at work.
Eventually, out of sheer desperation, I consulted with the OHF doctor's and asked for a recommendation. I was referred to Rehab Works. After a
consultation with Erik Nason, I began a three month rehabilitation program of exercises and therapy. I was very pleased, when after only two visits, I
could already tell a difference. I am now on a maintenance program that I can do at home or at one of KSC's Fitness Centers. I am very thankful for
the Rehab Works Center and KSC's commitment to having facilities such as this available for its employees. The convenience and cost savings, both
personally and to NASA from lack of work time lost, is surely an asset for everyone. Currently, I am pain free 95% of the time thanks to Erik, Amy, and
Rehab Works.
